Outrunning Hunger 2022

In May, Rachel’s Table held its 6th biennial Outrun Hunger 5K race/walk and 1-mile fun walk at Glenbrook Middle School in Longmeadow. For the first time ever, this event was hybrid, meaning it also took place virtually! Thank you to all of our sponsors, race participants, and volunteers. Because of you, Outrun Hunger raised $85,000, an increase of 100 percent compared to previous races!

This year’s Outrun Hunger event attracted more than 130 runners and walkers of all ages! On day 2 of a two-day heat wave, we were excited to see everyone’s enthusiasm as they raced to fill the bowls of those in need. The winners of the in-person race were:

Overall female: Shishi Gachuhi from Medford, MA
Overall male: Nicholas Cratovil from Monson, MA
Female under 12: Madelyn Arico from Agawam, MA
Male under 12: Nathan Chuku from Longmeadow, MA
Female 13-19: Rosa Newshore from Greenfield, MA
Female 20-40: Jessica Nhong from Chicopee, MA
Male 20-40: Alexander Smith from Longmeadow, MA
Female 40+: Heidi Meissner from Springfield, MA
Male 40+: Thomas Witkop from Springfield, MA

In addition to the race, we offered face-painting and encouraged race participants and other attendees to participate in can-struction activities. We also had members from our Teen Board on site providing information about food insecurity in our region.

Each time we race or walk, we provide an opportunity to use our bodies for good. This year, because of the increase in funds, we will be able to provide even more food to those in need, sustaining our operations so that we can be on the ground six days a week rescuing, purchasing, gleaning and helping to grow food for our neighbors in Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin Counties.

Thank you for the difference YOU make!
