The longest federal government shutdown in US history has left many government employees and contractors without paychecks. With no clear end in sight, families affected by the shutdown are finding themselves in dire financial straits. Today, these families are trying to figure out how they will pay their rents, pay their bills, and buy their medications.

Rachel’s Table is calling on the local community to aid the affected families in the western Massachusetts area by helping to put food on their tables.

Until the furloughed federal workers are receiving pay, Rachel’s Table will continue hosting a Foodraiser with the aim of collecting and distributing food to those affected by the government shutdown.

If you are able to help, we ask that you bring non-perishable food items to Rachel’s Table’s central office at 1160 Dickinson St, Springfield, MA, 01108, between the hours of 9:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Thursday and 9:00am-3:00pm, Friday.

Our first planned delivery is to Project Hope Pantry at 292 New Ludlow Rd., Chicopee. Project Hope will be opening their pantry to federally furloughed employees on January 23rd.

Our second food delivery will be sent to the Pioneer Valley USO at 250 Jenkins Street, Westover Air Reserve Base, Chicopee, MA. During the Furlough, the USO is expanding access of its food pantry to include ALL reservists who serve as federal employees.

Until the government shutdown ends, Rachel’s Table will be expanding its efforts to provide food relief to all those affected.

Rachel’s Table thanks you for your donations. Together we make a difference in our community.
